Windows lets you edit the settings of many of the resources in your computer by selecting their Properties. Properties serve as a front end to the Registry, which is the Windows database that holds the actual data (see Win Registry).
The Properties dialog boxes, also known as "Property Sheets," are displayed by selecting the various control panels from the Start menu (see Win control panels). Right clicking on various objects also displays Properties. Following are ways to access useful Property Sheets.
FILES AND FOLDERS (Size, Date, etc.)
In Explorer, right click on the file or folder and select Properties.
SCREEN APPEARANCE (Desktop, Colors, Screen saver)
Right click on any uncovered part of the desktop. In Win7 and Vista, select Personalize. In XP, select Properties.
TASKBAR (Hide/restore, Show clock)
Right click on any uncovered part of the Taskbar (in between the buttons, if necessary).
HARDWARE CONFIGURATION (Model, Driver data)
Except for Windows NT 4, Device Manager shows the details of all attached hardware. See Win Device Manager.
