Refers to applications that run in a server. Also known as "thin client computing," it may refer to a browser-based environment that uses a Web browser as the client with all applications running on a Web server on the Internet or in an intranet on the LAN.
It may also refer to a terminal environment, in which the client machine serves as a dumb terminal in the centralized architecture like that of earlier mainframes. See thin client, Windows Terminal Server, Citrix XenApp and X Window.
