Executive Briefing: Best of the Year

VARBusiness

As the year draws to a close, here's a look at the top twenty most-trafficked articles from the Executive Briefing for all of 2003. It makes a pretty good proxy for what was on the minds of solution providers this year.

When Viruses Attack

Not the flu--computer viruses. Fully six of the top twenty articles were either news of fast-spreading worms, or evaluations of security strategies. These included: Yet Another Mass-Mailed Worm Is Spreading Fast; MSBlast Copycat On The Loose; Microsoft Antivirus Play Rattles Market; Security Experts Name Mysterious Trojan: Stumbler; FBI Nabs Teen Suspect In MSBlaster Variant Worm; and Intrusion-Detection Systems Earn Failing Grades.

Another four of the top twenty focused on the adventures and misadventures of the major channel distributors: Tech Data, Ingram Micro Stocks Plummet; Ingram Micro Marketing Executive Resigns; Tech Data Launches SAN Bundle; and Daisytek Files For Chapter 11 Reorganization.

Reading the Vendors

Not surprisingly, the activities of the major vendors were well-represented in the top twenty: Dell Set To Enter Digital Home Market; HP Reorganizes; IBM Shakes Up Its Software Strategy; Princeton and HP Researchers Create New Plastic Memory; and Gateway Gets Serious About the Channel.

Two articles related to executive moves: BEA Loses Another Channel Chief; and Senior Executive Leaves EDS

Solution Provider Business

And, of course, coverage of solution providers, and their outlook for the future, was a key element of the Executive Briefing. These articles included: The Truth About the VARBusiness 500, a look at VAR's annual listing of the top solution providers; CRN editor Heather Clancy's interview with CompuCom CEO Ed Coleman (the single most read Executive Briefing article of the year); and, to close the year on a high note, VARBusiness 500 Research: The IT Recession Is Over.
