Cisco's latest push into the booming network access control market comes in the form of two new products: one aimed at branch offices and SMB customers, the other targeted at enterprises.

Network Admission Control Module for Integrated Services Routers

Cisco has taken all of the functionality of its NAC appliance family and packed into a new plug-in for its ISR branch office router family. It checks devices before granting them access to the network to see if they comply with corporate security policies and denies access to those that don't. By popping the module into their existing routers, customers stand to save roughly 50 percent vs. buying a separate, stand-alone NAC appliance, Cisco executives said. In addition, Cisco SmartNet contracts on ISRs will extend to cover the new modules, meaning customers won't have to shell out for additional maintenance services. The module carries a list price of $4,995 for 100 users and is scheduled to begin shipping within the next few weeks.
