The 2013 Verizon Data Breach Report explains the top five causes of data breaches, such as phishing attacks and stolen account credentials.

Cybercriminals are exploiting vulnerability and configuration weaknesses with malware and hacking techniques, and using stolen account credentials to gain access to corporate networks, according to the recently released 2013 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report.

The Verizon DBIR, an analysis of more than 600 data breaches that took place in 2012, found similarities in attack methods and identified ways that businesses can lock down systems to better protect sensitive data.
