Here's one from the "Dubious Spokesperson" department. Toktumi Inc., a provider of hosted PBX phone services, has hired former JetBlue flight attendant Steven Slater to promote the company's "Mile High Text Club" contest.
Slater, as you remember, made headlines in August when, apparently fed up with rude behavior on planes, berated passengers over the airplane's intercom system before exiting the aircraft via an emergency slide -- but not before grabbing some road beers and shots.
Toktumi sells the Line2 application that allows iPhone users to add a second phone line. The software now offers in-flight texting capabilities for use on Wi-Fi-equipped airplanes. Toktumi is promoting that feature with the Mile High Text Club contest, which invites travelers to text in their "craziest" flight stories to win prizes.
The Toktumi press release announcing the contest said Slater's actions were "a statement about the need to return civility and common courtesy to flying" and called him "a perfect judge for a contest concerning the current state of air travel."
