The Daily App: Drippler

The Daily App, Drippler for Android devices

If you're serious about selling Android devices, then today's daily app is a must-have. And if your Android customers enjoy knowing everything there is to know about their Android-running devices (like we geeks in the CRN Test Center), then they'll thank you for telling them about it, too.

Claiming over a million downloads to date, software developer Drippler, and its free namesake app, starts being helpful the moment it's installed. Drippler searches a multitude of sources and displays everything it can find about the device on which it's installed -- including news, tips, rumors, software updates, new models and any other scrap of information it can find. These tasty tidbits are sorted into the "latest" news, stories, reviews, rumors and info, and those it deems "popular." There's also a sync tab for linking with Facebook, and a deals tab that displays ads for related apps and accessories.

Although the Android infrastructure itself provides a decent framework for updating device software, we like Drippler for its ability to automatically provide the latest news and tips in a format that makes it easy to consume and find out more. If a factoid is of interest, simply tap it to link to the full story, tip, download or whatever.

Until today, Drippler was distributed on the Android market as separate, device-specific apps. But, the company told the Test Center that a new version will detect the device on which it's installed and act accordingly. We tested the new version last week and it correctly identified our Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and worked as well as the device-specific version.
