The daily app, Personal Capital

For the busy entrepreneur or the frazzled soccer mom, today's Daily App can help keep finances in order with face-to-face help when needed. Financial services company Personal Capital and its namesake app for iPad and iPhone provide access to any number of personal and business bank accounts, as well as credit card and investment accounts, from a single, user-friendly interface.

The free Personal Capital app watches money flow, tracks investments and mortgages, monitors bank and credit card transactions and can send fraud and payment-due alerts to help pay bills on time. The iPad version provides a consolidated view of finances with estimation and value analysis of stock options. A new universal checkbook allows for simple electronic payments and fund transfers to vendors, creditors or individuals.

Personal Capital also makes it easy to keep mobile and office devices in sync, which it does automatically through a free online account. The interface is divided into three main areas: net worth, expenses for the past 30 days and investments. The latter section tracks portfolio balances and asset allocations and compares holdings against the market. Personal Capital generates revenue from the free app by offering fee-based consultation services with a registered investment advisor using FaceTime.
