The Daily App, TripIt

When a conference comes along, you must TripIt. Before your reservation wait's too long, you must TripIt. Before your flight is booked all wrong, you must TripIt. Fans of the new wave group Devo might recognize our riff on the lyrics of their 1980 hit single "Whip it," which came to mind when writing about today’s Daily App. TripIt is a free travel app for Android and iOS that since 2006 has been helping organize trip details into a master online itinerary.

Its developer, also called TripIt, says it created the app to take the hassle out of travel when it comes to gathering scattered emails and reservations. Being travelers themselves, the company's developers wanted to encompass their first-hand experiences in an easy-to-use free app that integrates maps, directions and weather reports directly into the traveler's master itinerary. TripIt also provides the ability to check in at the airport, book restaurant reservations, obtain theater tickets and find activities, all from within the mobile app or the TripIt website.

To get started, simply forward hotel, airline, car rental and restaurant reservations to the TripIt team via email, and they’ll organize the information provided. TripIt also can automatically pull travel confirmations from Gmail and store them directly within the app. TripIt can sync all trip plans and mark them on the device's calendar. Friends and colleagues can be updated on travel plans through Facebook, LinkedIn and email with just a click or two.
