New Nascio Exec Named

NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior-level state officials responsible for information-resource management.

An industry veteran, Robinson has more than 25 years' experience in the IT field. That includes extensive experience working in and around state governments and the NASCIO organization, which faces significant challenges given state budget constraints, rapidly changing technologies and intense security and privacy concerns.

For example, he served as executive director of the Governor's Office for Technology for the Commonwealth of Kentucky's Office of Policy and Customer Relations since 1999. Prior to that, he has also served as executive director of the Office of the Kentucky Information Resources Management Commission from 1996 to 1999 and as executive director of the Kentucky Office of Geographic Information Systems from 1992 to 1996. For 15 years before that, Robinson was the technology transfer coordinator for NASA's Technology Applications Center at the University of Kentucky.

Gerry Wethington, CIO of Missouri and NASCIO's current president, says Robinson's extensive executive experience in state information technology will be an asset for NASCIO as it continues to help leaders meet such challenges as moving toward "the delivery of convenient services" during a dynamic time when state governments are undergoing major changes and are attempting to break down some of their traditional barriers.
