Cisco Router Is Built To Last

"The carrier routing system breaks new ground for service providers because it's the first product designed to enable them to build a packet-based network that converges data, voice and video under a single, converged network," says Jared Headley, senior manager of product marketing of the Routing Technology Group at Cisco. "From a landscape perspective, what it does is gives them the first product to build with the scale for 10, 20 and 30 years of longevity in the product."

Headley says Cisco was able to involve its service-provider customers, such as Deutsche Telecom and MCI, in the engineering process. "It brings in telephone-like reliability we haven't seen in router networks to date," Headley says.

The system can be maintained, upgraded, enhanced and scaled, all without ever being turned off.
