Salary Survey Methodology

Salary Survey Methodology:

Between February and April, CRN conducted a comprehensive survey of solution provider personnel to obtain data on total compensation (defined as the sum of salary, bonus and commission) for 2002 and 2003.

A total of 1,774 individuals were surveyed in three separate job categories--managers, salespeople and technical staff. CRN received 969 responses from managers, 128 responses from salespeople, and 677 responses from technical personnel. Managers were evaluated at three different levels, or job classifications: senior executive (CEO, CFO, CIO, or president), technical manager and sales manager.

Sales staff were evaluated at two different levels: senior salesperson (an individual with at least five years experience who handles the largest and highest-profile accounts); and junior salesperson (an individual with less than five year experience and who handles smaller accounts).

Technical personnel were surveyed on the basis of certification level, depending on whether the individual held a single certification, multiple certifications or no certifications at all.

Additional data were also collected to allow breakouts based on gender, experience and the size of the solution provider. Compensation data was also broken out separately for seven different regions of the country (shown below) and, for the first time ever, 14 individual states.
