In an effort to improve resellers' ability to land public-sector contracts, two distributors recently announced enhancements to their government programs.

Tech Data announced the expansion of Bid Desk, a service offering for accessing and pursuing government opportunities. Bid Desk now provides information about and assistance with large deals, such as FirstSource, the Homeland Security Department's $3 billion IT contract for acquiring commodity IT offerings.

"We're starting to marshal our resources at Tech Data to respond to the large opportunities," says Barb Miller, director of government and technical services at the Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor.

Meanwhile, GE's Access Distribution enhanced its Government Contract Watch offering with six databases that provide information about products and services procured through agencies. Specifically, resellers now can access details about federal, state and local opportunities, as well as agency, company and peoples' profiles.
