James Webb will run against Republican George Allen for the Virginia Senate seat this fall, having defeated Harris Miller, former president of the Information Technology Association of America, in the democratic primary.

A former Republican and Navy secretary, Webb entered the race late in the game, but quickly became the favorite in voter polls. Webb earned 83,002 votes, or 53 percent; Miller earned 72,263 votes, or 46 percent. As of Wednesday, no comments regarding the results were posted to Webb's or Miller's campaign Web sites.
