Java creator James Gosling on the Apple transition to Intel processors:

Now that the new Intel Macintoshes are officially out, it's probably safe for me to comment on my experience as a developer in their transition program: it was completely boring - as it should have been. Things just worked.

Gosling said his experience with an Intel-based Macintosh has been "totally painless."

Intel and Apple have shared a fairly good first two weeks of 2006, with Intel gaining generally favorable reviews for the technology it debuted at the International CES show last week, and Apple winning all the attention with its Mac World announcements this week.

Will the good news continue? Intel reports its earnings next Tuesday, and Apple follows with its earnings on Wednesday.

If nothing else, Apple's Steve Jobs is showing he has a sense of humor. His company's iTunes service has begun providing clips of Saturday Night Live for download. Among the first SNL clips? A "Weekend Update" sketch from last fall lampooning Jobs' mannerisms and frequent releases of new iPods that make older iPods - including ones released "five seconds" earlier - obsolete.
