IBM on Wednesday unveiled a global distribution deal for its high-end production printers with Ingram Micro's Nimax unit.

Nimax will act as a channel source for IBM's Infoprint 6700 Thermal/RFID, Infoprint 6500 and Infoprint 4247 impact printers, according to IBM's Boulder, Colo.-based printing unit and Nimax.

The Nimax unit of Ingram Micro, which the Santa Ana, Calif., distributor acquired in 2004, focuses on automatic identification/data capture (AIDC), point-of-sale and mobile products. The printers IBM has targeted for distribution through Nimax play into that core focus.

A thermal printing unit, the Infoprint 6700 supports barcode solutions and has flexible media handling, as well as an option for RFID printing. The Infoprint 6500 is a line matrix printer, and the Infoprint 4247 is a high-output unit targeted at manufacturing, distribution and transportation solutions.
