Chantilly, Va.-based PC Mall Gov has acquired the products business of Government Micro Resources Inc. (GMRI) for $3.23 million, growing its line item card to include products from Sun Microsystems, among others.

The cash transaction passes ownership of products, business assets and contracts, which drew about $42 million in sales in the first eight months of 2006 alone, to the wholly owned subsidiary of PC Mall. GMRI will now focus on its services business, says PC Mall Gov president Alan Bechara.

To make the transition seamless, PC Mall Gov hired GMRI employees that were before associated with the products business.

In addition to Sun authorization, the purchase will grow PC Mall Gov's portfolio of high-end IBM workstations.

"This will grow and enhance our current relationships, allowing us to act as a single provider to the customer," Bechara says.

While both businesses focus on the public sector market, there is hardly any duplication in the customer base.

"We're able to move up in solution spectrum from Wintel to high-end systems," Bechara adds. "That creates huge selling opportunity."
