The grumblings on the Web have gotten louder in the past couple of days that Apple is prepared to unveil something this fall. AppleInsider is reporting that Piper Jaffary analyst Gene Munster thinks that the time is right for Apple to make a move on their MacBook and iPod offerings.

Using information from three previous September gatherings to announce updates, tweaks and new products to consumers, Munster doesn't think this fall will be any different. While a redesign of the iPod nano and shuffle might not be in order, an increase in capacity in both doesn't seem to be outside the realm of speculation. Additionally, dropping the iPod touch to a $199 price point, one that lines up with the iPhone, could give sales a quick boost.

But Mac-hungry consumers are likely more interested in Munster's predictions for MacBooks. Right now, the price point on PC laptops beats Apple every time. Fortunately for Apple, their core audience enjoys the products enough to drop the extra dollars.

But when this announcement happens, Munster thinks that the MacBook may be dropped in price to $999. Thinking back, that price is certainly reminiscent of the iBook.

MacBook Pro could also get a facelift, Munster thinks. The MacBook Pro was initially introduced to the marketplace about two and a half years ago and has remained more or less unchanged since then. The thought of a touchscreen MacBook is appealing, but unlikely.
