Affinity Index: Displays/Monitors

Despite Smaller Proposals, Sony In the Lead
Despite Smaller Proposals, Sony In the Lead
Sony claimed the healthiest share for monitors and displays in terms of the dollar value of proposals written by VARs in the first half of 2008. The company accounted for 37.4 percent of the value of all display proposals through the channel during that period. Dell came in second place with a value percent share of 23.4 percent, and Samsung was in third with 22.6 percent. Although Sony did lead in the share value, its average transaction size was less than a third of Dell's -- $15,300 to Dell's $49,500.

Some solution providers said it will be interesting to see how Sony adjusts its strategies for 2009, especially with the news this week that it would cut 8,000 jobs in the wake of sluggish sales -- especially in television and digital camera sales -- in its business overall.
