On The Fly
As a major metropolitan airport, Philadelphia International Airport sees more than 30 million passengers a year, which means that infrastructure changes of any kind have to be done, if not on the fly, then certainly without interruption to the airport's data display needs. The airport can't just shut down for a few hours -- let alone a few days -- to make room for a technology implementation.
Starting in April 2008, Infax, a Duluth, Ga.-based solution provider that's been in the display business for 35 years, was part of the team that successfully transitioned the airport's aging cathode ray tube (CRT) displays to LCDs, using products from NEC Display. Here's a look at the results of the 18-month implementation and some of the challenges encountered.
