Signage On The Fly: Integrator Takes Philadelphia Airport Digital

Philadelphia International Airport checks in at 2.4 million square feet, with 120 boarding gates. The City of Philadelphia's Division of Aviation went first to Arora Engineers, a consulting firm, to provide recommendations on how to spruce things up, and the CRT displays came up as a priority -- they were no longer, according to Arora, 'dynamic or interesting.' Arora elected NEC large-format LCD displays -- including the 4620-2-AV (pictured) -- and considered several integrators, eventually picking Infax and its long history of successful implementations in wayfinding environments like airports, train stations and other commuter-heavy locations.

One of the most difficult challenges was a set of requirements, provided by Philadelphia to Arora, that, among other things, stipulated a three-year, on-site warranty for any of the digital-signage products.
