Apple made Hard Drive Firmware Update 2.0 available for download from Apple late Wednesday. The update is aimed at the June 2009 model MacBook Pro, which is equipped with 7,200-rpm drives that emitted "certain infrequent noises" that were annoying and alarming users. The update will reduce those noises, Apple said.
Apple acknowledged last week that some MacBook Pro users had been experiencing noisy hard drives. According to AppleInsider, before Apple went public with its acknowledgement, some AppleCare workers told annoyed customers that a fix was in the works.
Hundreds of annoyed MacBook Pro users spoke out in Apple Support forums, complaining that their hard drives would randomly click and beep.
Along with issuing the firmware update for 7,200-rpm MacBook Pro drives, Apple on Wednesday also fixed a few glitches with wireless mice and keyboards via the Bluetooth Firmware Update 2.0.1, which is available for download via Apple.
The Bluetooth software update offers "bug fixes and better compatibility with the Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse and Apple Wireless Keyboard," Apple said.
