On the CRT monitor side, several vendors emphasized flat screens.
Eizo Nanao Technologies Inc., Cypress, Calif., unveiled its FlexScan T550, a 17-inch flat-screen CRT monitor with a 0.25mm dot pitch and a recommended resolution of 1,024 x 768 at 101Hz.
Estimated selling price is $559. Eizo also started shipping its $599 FlexScan FX-C7, a 17-inch monitor with a high-contrast, flat-square shadow-mask CRT, 0.26mm dot pitch and recommended resolutions of 1,280 x 1,024 at 89Hz and 1,024 x 768 at 118Hz.
The Computer Peripheral Division of Panasonic Document Imaging Co. (PDIC), Secaucus, N.J., showed its PanaSync P110i, a 21-inch monitor with 0.25mm dot pitch, maximum refresh rate of 117kHz, and resolution up to 1,800 x 1,440. It has an estimated price of $1,049.
Sony Electronics Inc., Park Ridge, N.J., showed new monitors based on its flat-screen FD Trinitron CRTs. The $250 15-inch HMD-A100 and $400 17-inch HMD-A200 both offer 0.24mm dot pitch, 1,280 x 1,024 resolution at 60Hz, and one upstream and four downstream USB ports. Both are expected to be released in September.
On the LCD monitor side, Philips Consumer Electronics Co., Atlanta, showed its 181AS LCD monitor with 18.1-inch screen and 1,280 x 1,024 dot pitch. It will offer an analog connector and a 160-degree, all-around viewing angle. The monitor is expected to hit the channel around July 1 with a suggested retail price of $3,499.
Panasonic introduced two new 15-inch LCD monitors with 1,024 x 768 maximum resolution and four USB connectors. The LC50 has an estimated street price of $1,249. For $50 more, the LC50SG offers a gray-tone finish and built-in speakers.
