Computer Associates International has announced plans to spin off its ASP infrastructure offering. The company also plans to spin off its desktop accounting business, and other technology operations that it feels can flourish independently, at a later date this year.

The first business to be spun off will be iCan-ASP, an ASP infrastructure software supplier. The chief technology officer of Computer Associates, Nancy Li, will become the CEO of iCan-ASP.

Li's position as CEO of the new spin-off demonstrates the core dependence on technology within the ASP marketplace. In a statement released by Computer Associates, the company noted that the ASP market was "already large and growing rapidly." In order to distinguish themselves, iCAN-ASP plans to focus on bringing new technology to the market via wireless and broadband communications.
