AMD Officially Launches Validated Server Program For Opteron

The companies said Celestica is providing both barebones and fixed configurations, including the 4U/4P A8440, a four-way, rack-mountable system based on the Opteron 800 Series, and the 1U/2P, a two-way, rack-mountable server based on the Opteron 200 series.

AMD originally unveiled the Validated Server Program in April when it launched the 64-bit Opteron processor. Also at the time, Celestica, Toronto, confirmed it would provide those configurations for solution providers.

The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chip maker restarted its efforts with Celestica as it began shipping new Opteron processors--models 844, 842 and 840, priced at $2,149, $1,299 and $749, respectively, in 1,000-unit quantities. AMD also said it was pricing its Opteron models 244, 242 and 240 at $794, $690 and $283, respectively, in 1,000-unit quantities.
