The Clearwater, Fla., distributor unveiled the AIS division last week. The new unit was formed to focus on VARs offering complex server- and storage-focused solutions.
The bundle includes IBM System x3500 and x3550 rack-mounted or tower servers configured with XenSource's XenEnterprise, which enables the management of multiple Windows and Linux operating systems on the same server, according to Pete Peterson, AIS senior vice president and general manager at Tech Data.
Solution providers should expect more preconfigured bundles and solutions from the AIS division, Peterson said.
"That's our intent and the basic foundation on which we built our business unit. We will help our VARs by bringing unique solutions opportunities to address a market that is growing," Peterson said. "There is continued growth in this segment for the near future. You will see us being more aggressive, with stronger programs going forward."
The IBM/XenSource bundle is a good place to start because virtualization represents a significant opportunity for VARs to build a business, Peterson said.
"From our perspective, it's in the infancy stages. We brought this to the table. XenSource is a fairly new company. They're new in the channel. We were the orchestrator, from a XenSource and IBM perspective, to develop a solution. This market has been growing significantly," he said.
Tech Data will provide IBM and XenSource VARs with dedicated sales, technical and product management support resources as part of the bundle, Peterson added.
