Tech Data To Offer PolyServe Line

Tech Data's Advanced Infrastructure Solutions (AIS) division is adding PolyServe virtualization, consolidation and Unix replacement software to its product lineup.

The move comes just days after Hewlett-Packard announced a deal to acquire PolyServe for an undisclosed amount.

"This is very complementary to what we've been trying to accomplish in providing our resellers with virtualization and consolidation tools," said Pete Peterson, senior vice president and general manager of Tech Data's AIS division. "Not only do they help manage the other server components, they help manage the storage elements as well. It's an all-in-one, encompassing virtualization systems management tool."

Data centers nationwide are adding industry-standard servers or are moving to them from Unix machines because they can save money and take advantage of the more robust features that have emerged in new products over the past year, according to Peterson.

"We're seeing a convergence in data centers around the country of Unix products and industry-standard products taking a bigger slice of the pie," he said. "[PolyServe software] is a great tool in helping drive those Unix data centers to an industry-standard platform."

Tech Data will distribute all of PolyServe's software solutions, including its Database Utility for Microsoft SQL Server, Database Utility for Oracle RAC and non-RAC, File Serving Utility for High Performance Scalable NAS, File Serving Utility for Windows File and Print, and File Serving Utility for Web and Application Clusters.

The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor also will provide free on-site installation services for the PolyServe Database Utility to end users that qualify, an offering that the company said is worth about $12,000.
