Intel has appointed a company insider as its North American channel chief.

Nick Davison, 52, a longtime engineer and marketing executive at Intel, has been named director of North American channel sales and marketing for Intel, the Santa Clara, Calif., chip giant confirmed.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native will succeed former U.S. channel leader Steve Dallman, who was promoted to a global channel post in December.

The Intel Solution Summit, to be held the week of March 18 in San Diego, will be the "coming out" party for the new channel chief, a company spokeswoman said.

Most recently, Davison has served as director of North American retail sales and marketing since 2004. In the first 60 days in his new post, Davison will be studying Intel's distribution channel and channel organization and identifying strengths and weaknesses, a company spokeswoman said.

Since joining Intel in 1979, Davison has worked as a field-sales engineer and held a variety of sales management positions, including district sales manager, Southwest regional manager, and manager of HP worldwide business.

Davison earned his degree in chemistry and math from University of Arizona in 1978 and began his career at Phillips Corp. in San Jose.

In December, Dallman was promoted to general manager of Intel's Reseller Channel Organization (RCO). A 25-year-plus Intel veteran, Dallman has worked 15 of those years in the company's channel organization.
