Sirius Acquires IBM VAR DyComp

Sirius Computer Solutions is making good on a promise last year to do its part to consolidate the solution provider space by acquiring substantially all of the assets of regional VAR DyComp.

San Antonio-based Sirius, one of IBM's largest solution providers, on Monday acquired DyComp, a small IBM solution provider in Clemmons, N.C., with about 150 clients.

Jim Dyson, president and CEO of DyComp, will continue as area sales manager for the mid-Atlantic region at Sirius. Other DyComp employees will be integrated into Sirius, Sirius officials said.

Terms of the deal were not released.

Dyson said in a statement Monday that being a small, regional company enabled his team to focus on serving his IBM customers.

"But given today's complexities in IT solutions, I knew I needed to join forces with a company with much broader and deeper skills in products, platforms and disciplines that we didn't have. Sirius complements our skills in key strategic areas and that is going to help my employees grow and my customers receive even more complete IT solutions," Dyson said.

Last November, Thoma Cressey Bravo invested an undisclosed sum in Sirius with the aim of helping Sirius expand its business, in part, by acquiring other solution providers.

Sirius is only one of a number of solution providers that has received funding from private equity firms for the purpose of expanding by acquisition.

The VAR has a history of growth by acquisition.

In 2004, the company purchased Denver Solutions Group, a solution provider focused on IBM's mainframes.

In 2002, Sirius acquired two other solution providers, Houston-based Strategic Systems and Beaverton, Ore.-based Symatrix Technology.
