SAP has overhauled the management of its SMB business unit, hiring a pair of former Avaya executives to manage its indirect channel organization and its SMB marketing.

Patricia Hume has been named senior vice president of the SAP indirect channel organization and Morag Lucey has been appointed to the new post of executive vice president of global small and midsize enterprise (SME) marketing.

SAP did not say why it was making changes to its SMB and channel management. SAP spokespersons did not immediately return phone calls. Michael Sotnick, senior vice president of SAP small and midsize business, did not respond to a phone call or e-mail.

Hume is based in Boston and reports to Eric Duffaut, executive vice president of global SME sales and channels. She previously held the post of global vice president for SME at telecommunications equipment vendor Avaya and also was acting vice president of EMEA channels. Before Avaya Hume held positions at Critical Path, Lotus, EMC, and IBM and once served as president and CEO of VerticalNet.

Lucey is based in New York and reports directly to Marty Homlish, SAP's global chief marketing officer, and to Hans-Peter Klaey, SME president. Lucey also previously worked at Avaya, serving as vice president of global marketing and channel management for small and medium business solutions, and vice president of EMEA marketing. Before Avaya she held positions at Nortel, Clarify and Microsoft.

SAP has more than 30,000 small and midsize customers, accounting for more than 70 percent of its customer base and more than $1.4 billion in yearly software sales, according to the company.
