Cisco, Westcon Extend Global Agreement To Brazil

When Cisco Brasil's distributor, Mude, came under investigation for tax fraud in October 2007, the manufacturer turned to Ingram Micro as a partner.

But in February 2008, Westcon Brasil was selected to represent the new Cisco distribution branch in Brazil.

The agreement mandates 100 percent growth in the number of active channels that are evaluated in 400 companies, according to Helio Guimaraes, marketing director for Westcon Latin America.

Westcon's association with the Cisco brand started in 2007, when the distributor concluded its partnership with Cisco competitor, 3Com. "The worldwide partnership with Cisco has existed since 1998, and bringing it to Brazil creates a natural way that needed only an opportunity to be concluded," says Guimaraes.

Not only channel volume will double. The Westcon team, in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo offices, has been doubled. "Today, we have almost 100 employees to prepare for an intensive increase on demand," he said, emphasizing that inventory capacity must also be expanded soon.

In order to support the channel, the Cisco project is incorporating Westcon's worldwide strategy. So, Onevoice (for unified communications solutions) and Onedefense (security) programs are now in Brazil. In the future, there will be also Onenetwork (networks) and Onewave (for mobility solutions) programs. All of them intend to give professional support to sales channels.

"We want to be the best option for the Cisco's products purchase in Brazil," said Guimaraes.
