The survey from tech research firm Aberdeen Group, said that IBM, Dell, HP, Cisco, Salesforce.com, EMC and Sun rounded out the Top 10 tech vendors. Other leading companies included Google at No. 11; Red Hat at No. 21; Apple at No. 16; and Citrix at No. 31.
The report also identified top criteria organizations use when selecting a technology solution provider, which include total cost of ownership (43 percent), product functionality (42 percent), vendor stability (24 percent), market specific knowledge and experience (24 percent), domain or industry expertise (22 percent), and reputation (21 percent).
Andrew Boyd, chief research officer at the Boston-based research firm, said that unsurprisingly, profitability is the No. 1 concern among vendors. Other top challenges are how to execute strategy (53 percent); shortage of talent (31 percent); and a possible recession (23 percent). Boyd also said it was noting that vendor stability and market knowledge were chief among vendor concerns.
"Organizations that have a well-articulated vertical strategy history of success in serving the market are well positioned for success," he said.

Vendors also said that they see business intelligence and analytics as the technology capabilities that are likely to have the greatest impact over the next three to five years. Last year, survey participants believed that mobility was the No. 1 growth area.
