Avnet Agrees To Buy Indian Systems Integrator

Avnet has reached a definititve agreement to acquire Ontrack Solutions of India, a $13 million Mumbai-based systems integrator established in 1993.

Ontrack has nine locations in India and has expertise in security, networking, consolidation, virtualization, storage and server solutions, according to the Phoenix-based distributor. The transaction is expected to close by mid-July 2008 and Ontrack will become part of the operations of Avnet Technology Solutions Asia Pacific.

The system integrator's top vendor partners include Hewlett-Packard, IBM, VMware, Citrix Systems, DoubleTake, CheckPoint, Nokia, Websense, and RSA.

Avnet plans to leverage the system integrator's existing footprint and capabilities to build a build a "value-added solutions distribution business" throughout India, according to the company.

John Paget, global president of Avnet Technology Solutions said, "The opportunity to expand our enterprise IT solutions footprint into the fast growing Indian market enables us to leverage our scale and scope as a global solutions distributor," said John Paget, global president of Avnet Technology Solutions, in a statement. "The skills and experience of the local team provide an excellent platform for us to build on and invest in the fastest growing IT market in Asia which is forecasted to reach $17 billion in 2009."
