Bob Dutkowsky, CEO of the Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor, advised the crowd that he couldn't go into detail about the company's state of affairs as it is in a quiet period before it reports fiscal 2009 third quarter earnings next Tuesday.
However, Dutkowsky did say that the company has been "challenged" in the SMB space, and called it an "unwashed market."
To bulk up the company's SMB presence, it plans to invest in the area throughout the rest of the year.
"We've made significant investments in our sales infrastructure to get at the SMB space," he said. "We will drive responsible growth, and by that I mean we will look to grow revenue and market share and profitability through our disciplined pricing and inventory management system. Those things have served us well in this environment."
Overall, Tech Data is holding steady, Dutkowsky said.
"We've been responsible in growth and have disciplined pricing and inventory which should serve us well in this tough economy," he said.
