Smartphone maker HTC rolled out a host of hot new handhelds at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

And while HTC didn't divulge where and when the devices would be available, details are starting to trickle out in the most unlikely of places: Twitter.

On HTC's Twitter feed, the company has confirmed that the Touch Pro 2 will indeed hit North America when it is released.

"And to answer the big question on everyone's minds, the Touch Pro 2 will be broadly available in all major markets, including North America," HTC wrote, or "tweeted" in its Twitter feed, later adding that there are no set launch dates for the device in any country "but we did announce we will start to roll it out in late Q2."

HTC also tweeted that it couldn't say which specific carriers will offer the Touch Pro 2.

HTC's use of the popular social networking application shows that companies are taking different approaches to reach their targeted audience. More companies are finding value in social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook and using the sites to send news alerts and general updates about products. Earlier this month Dell launched a Twitter-specific discount of 20 percent on a tablet PC through its Twitter feed.

The HTC Touch Pro 2, which will run Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6.1 when it is released, can be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5. The smartphone features an adjustable tilting 3.6-inch TFT-LCD 450 x 800 WVGA touch screen, a full slide-keyboard, a 3.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.
