Dell May Be Developing Android Netbook

Yesterday, Bsquare, a Bellevue, Wash.-based software development firm, let the world know that it was working with Dell to port Adobe Flash Lite 3.17 to the computer manufacturer's Android-based netbooks.

One problem: Dell currently doesn't have any Android netbooks on the market.

According to the press release -- which has since been pulled from Bsquare's Web site -- the company believes the Android OS will help remake the mobile device market.

"Industry analysts also predict that Android will gain traction on smart devices, such as the ultraportable Dell Mini Inspiron 910, which are used in a range of industries," the company wrote in the release. Brian Crowley, CEO of Bsquare, said in the statement that porting Flash Lite to Dell's Android netbook was just the first of what's likely to be many such ports to Android-based devices.

"Integrating Adobe Flash technology with the functionality of Google's Android platform on the full range of netbook devices will allow our OEM customers to meet the high expectations their customers have of this new industry segment," Crowley said. "As the netbook and nettop market segments expand, our Adobe Flash Lite port to Android is just one of the software products we will offer our OEM and ODM customers."

A phone call to Dell was not immediately returned. Chances are good that Dell isn't too pleased with Bsquare after it blew its Android cover.
