Apple Spills New iMac Specs, Adds Magic Trackpad

According to Apple, the new iMacs come in 21.5-inch and 27-inch models and pack in either an Intel Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processor.

The new iMacs also add a "Magic Trackpad" option that for $69 gives users multi-touch functionality similar to Apple notebooks on their iMac desktops. Apple said the Magic Trackpad features a glass surface and lets users scroll smoothly up and down a page with pinch to zoom, rotate and swipe capabilities. The Magic Trackpad can support single button or two button commands as well as tap-to-click and physical click, Apple added.

The 21.5-inch model comes in three different configurations: a 3.06GHz Intel Core i3, a 3.2GHz Intel Core i3 and a 3.6GHz Intel Core i5. Meanwhile, the 27-inch delivers four different processor options: the 3.2GHz or 3.6GHz chips as the 21.5-inch or a 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with an 8MB level 3 cache that supports Turbo Boost or a 2.93GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with a 8MB level 3 cache that supports Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost.

Apple also beefed up the graphics options in its iMacs, offering an ATI Radeon HD 4670 with 256 MB of GDDR3 memory or an ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512 MB of GDDR3 memory in the 21.5-inch models; and an ATI Radeon HD 5670 with 512MB of GDDR3 memory in the 27-inch model or an ATI Radeon 5750 with 1GB of GDDR5 memory in the quad-core 27-incher.

Apple's specs for the new iMacs indicate that all updated models offer a FireWire 800 port capable of powering up to 7 watts, four USB 2.0 ports, an SDXC memory card slot, AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi that’s compatible with 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and a 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet connector. They add iSight video cameras, built-in speakers and microphones.

Apple resellers and the Apple Store are now offering the new iMacs run $1,199 for the 21.5-inch 3.06Ghz and $1,499 for 21.5-inch 3.2GHz. The 27-inch 3.2GHz is $1,699, while the 27-inch 2.8GHz quad-core comes in at $1,999.
