BMC Software closed out fiscal 2007 strongly, reporting Tuesday a 21.7 percent increase in fourth-quarter net earnings over the same period in 2006, and announcing the acquisition of IT analytics developer ProactiveNet.

The Houston-based software vendor reported $419.4 million in total revenues for the fourth quarter, up 2.8 percent from fiscal 2006's fourth quarter, with earnings reported at $62.8 million, up from $51.6 million.

On the year, BMC reported net earnings of $215.9 million, a 111.7 percent jump over $102 million in fiscal 2006 earnings. BMC reported $1.6 billion in revenue for the year, a 5.5 percent increase over the previous year's $1.5 billion revenue.

BMC expects first quarter fiscal 2008 revenues to be in the $365 million to $380 million range. On the year, the company expects revenues to increase in the low- to mid-single digits.

BMC president and CEO Bob Beauchamp said the ProactiveNet acquisition is tied in "very specifically" to advancing the company's core Business Service Management (BSM) offerings.

"This acquisition will further lengthen our lead in the BSM marketplace," he said.

In a statement, Beauchamp elaborated: "BMC's acquisition of ProactiveNet will help customers ensure a superior end-user experience for their customers by automatically detecting potential problems before they impact service."
