Separate licensing deals and settlements had been reached with AT&T, the exclusive carrier for the Apple iPhone in the U.S., and with eBay and its Skype calling service, Klausner said. The privately-held Klausner Technology did not disclose the financial details of the licensing deals or settlements.
In December of 2007, Klausner Technologies sued Apple, AT&T and eBay, as well as CSC Holdings, Comcast, Simulscribe and GotVoice for $360 million for violating Klausner Technologies' patents on the "visual voicemail" technology, which sends visual alerts to mobile phones and computers when users receive a voicemail message. Klausner Technologies filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, which is known for its streamlined patent litigation rules.
Currently, the existing licensees of the "visual voicemail" technology are wireless phone company Sprint Nextel, and Internet phone company Vonage. But Klausner Technology told Reuters that it was in talks with Comcast and Cablevision about using the visual voicemail technology.
