The San Jose, Calif., maker of content-creation tools said it decide to add support for the open-source operating system in Reader 7.0 because of the increasing adoption of Linux, especially among government and financial services organizations.

"Our customers were asking for Adobe Reader 7.0 on Linux as they begin to support core enterprise applications at the desktop," Eugene Lee, vice president of product marketing for Adobe's Intelligent Documents Business Unit, said in a statement.

The company's content-management software, the Adobe LiveCycle server, also supports Linux.
