HP's SOA frameworks are aimed at the financial services, network service provider, public sector, and manufacturing/distribution segments. The company noted that market research studies project the SOA market will grow 138 percent from $3.6 billion in 2005 to $8.6 billion in 2006.

"HP recognized that each industry has very specific business and technology requirements to effectively run their operations," said Uday Kumaraswami, vice president of HP Services' Worldwide Enterprise Applications Practice, in a statement. "HP's SOA vertical frameworks are tailored to speed up processes and provide a flexible foundation for continuous improvements in their respective industries."

For the financial services industry, HP designated its HP Open Bank and HP Open Payments programs, which are designed to move banks to SOA. Elsewhere, the modular, standards-based HP Service Delivery Platform is targeted at the telecom market while the HP Integrated Service Management offering integrates operations and assists in managing networks and services.

The firm's e-government solutions assist government units to move to SOA technology while leveraging their existing IT investments. And HP's Manufacturing and Distribution Industries (MDI) reference architecture enables collaborative manufacturing solutions to be rapidly delivered.
