Like Magic: SAP DB Becomes MaxDB

SAP

MySQL acquired the rights to SAP's database in May.

The new database, like MySQL, will be available both under a commercial license and the General Public License prevalent in the open-source world. The commercial version of MySQL is priced at $440 per server. It was unclear what the price on the commercial MaxDB would be.

In related news announced at LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco, MySQL, which has U.S. headquarters in Seattle, and Redmond, Wash.-based Pogo Linux detailed pricing on their planned "database appliance." The dual-processor Xeon boxes start at $8,999 in a standard configuration. The DataWare 2600 ships with MySQL Pro database versions 4.0 and 4.1 on the latest stable Linux kernel.

MySQL has been working overtime to line up partnerships. Last week, it said it plans to team with storage software maker Veritas Software on enterpirse Linux solutions to be previewed at LinuxWorld. It also allied with SGI to put MySQL on SGI Altix 3000 servers.
