Opsware Rolls Out Data Center Automation Upgrade

Using a point-and-click interface, Opsware 4.0 now offers solution providers the ability to automate the server and application life cycle across Windows, Unix and Linux environments, according to the company.

One of the new features in 4.0, called Data Center Intelligence (DCI), tracks IT investments such as the amount being spent on technology assets and labor.

The DCI software also provides a central view into operations activities and server and software usage across all data centers. In addition, it provides information on current and historical server configurations, patch levels, active vs. decommissioned servers, technology versions and other data operations.

Opsware, Sunnyvale, Calif., also added Web services APIs that enable customers' existing systems to communicate with Opsware's system.

The APIs enable the exchange of information between existing monitoring, trouble-ticketing and billing systems, for example, with Opsware's data center automation system.

Security measures such as automated patch management and digitally signed audit trails have also been added to 4.0.

Pricing for the upgrade was not available.
