Xerox Corp. said Tuesday it will pay $54 million to acquire XMPie, a privately held company that provides variable information software. Xerox is XMPie's largest reseller.

XMPie's software enables cross-media, personalized marketing programs that combine digitally printed direct mail, e-mail and other methods to reach customers with customized marketing materials.

"Through this acquisition, we are bringing the intelligence of data collection together with the quality of digital printing to provide complete, measurable solutions for multimedia marketing campaigns," said Ursula Burns, president of Xerox Business Group Operations, according to a press release.

Xerox said XMPie will retain its name after the acquisition and be headed by Jacob Aizikowitz, a founder of the firm who has been serving as its chairman and chief technology officer.
