PC blade vendor ClearCube is set to ship a new version of its desktop virtualization management software with enhanced support for VMware's virtualization software.
ClearCube's Sentral software is designed to support centralized desktop computing environments in which multiple end users share the resources of centrally located PC blades and virtual machines instead of using traditional, individual desktop PCs. Desktop virtualization is still in the early stages of adoption, with health care and government industries among the earliest adopters.
Sentral version 5.5, set to ship in May, will add support for VMware's ESX3 Server and VMware Server software. In the past, ClearCube's software could handle VMware virutal machines, but to do so it required an agent running on the VMware host operating system. Now the software can talk directly to VMware APIs and start up and stop the virtual machines as if they were blades.
The new version also adds support for Microsoft's Vista operating system.
ClearCube earlier this year announced its plans to move to a 100 percent channel sales model and to double the number of its reseller partners this year.
