Enslin, previously SAP's COO, had been serving as interim president following Tomb's departure. Enslin is a 16-year veteran of SAP who, in addition to the COO post, served as vice president of fast growth markets and global field operations at the company.

Earlier jobs he held within SAP included president and CEO of the SAP Japan Co. Ltd. subsidiary, COO of SAP North America, and interim president and CEO of SAP Latin America.

In his new post Enslin is responsible for all of SAP's business operations in North America. He reports to Bill McDermott, who oversees SAP's global field operations and sits on SAP's board of directors. McDermott himself was president and CEO of SAP North America until last year when he was promoted to his current position.

Tomb's leave of absence came right after SAP said it would cut some 3,000 jobs, or about 6 percent of its workforce, because of the global recession. Tomb's departure was described as unrelated to the company's finances and he is expected to return to the company sometime in the future in a new capacity.
