IBM Produces Express Messaging For SMBs

Software

Next week, the company will unveil an e-mail and scheduling package tailored for small- and medium-sized businesses.

IBM Lotus Domino Messaging Express will take on Microsoft Exchange Server in these target accounts, according to IBM. The software will run on Windows, Linux and OS/400 server operating systems and support light browser clients as well as popular Outlook and Notes clients.

The software starts at $48 per user as a competitive upgrade from rival mail packages or $96 for new users. Those prices are one-time charges and include the first year of maintenance. After that period, customers pay for additional maintenance if they want it.

IBM Software is making an aggressive push into companies with up to 1,000 employees by tailoring versions of its middleware for those environments. The company already offers Lotus Express, DB2 Express and WebSphere Express.
