SAP Expands Content Management Offerings Through Open Text Deal

SAP is adding digital asset management applications to its product lineup under a reseller deal with content management software vendor Open Text, the two companies said this week.

The agreement expands an already extensive alliance between the two vendors. Last October SAP began reselling Open Text's Enterprise Content Management software as part of its SAP Business Suite. SAP also resells Open Text's document access, archiving and invoice management applications under an earlier deal.

The digital asset management software helps businesses manage marketing content, such as material developed for marketing Web sites, and content developed by the entertainment industry, said Singh Mecker, head of SAP's global ecosystem and partner group.

SAP is reselling the Open Text software under the name "SAP Digital Asset Management application by Open Text." The development work to integrate the software with other SAP products, including its CRM applications, has been completed and the product is now available from SAP, Mecker said.

While SAP resells software from a handful of other vendors, Open Text is among the most significant of the Walldorf, Germany-based company's supplier partners, said Scott Brown, senior vice president of Open Text's enterprise 2.0 line of business.

Content management systems are an increasingly critical application for many businesses. Last week Hewlett-Packard unveiled HP Trim 7, a records management and archiving system that runs on Microsoft's SharePoint collaboration platform. That software helps businesses capture, manage and search for documents and comply with document regulatory and legal discovery requirements.
