Motorola: European Users Won't See Android 2.2 Until Q4

In addition, European customers for Motorola's Backflip and Dext devices won't even receive upgrades to Android 2.1, according to the schedule.

In the U.S., Android 2.2 is currently being rolled out to Droid customers and the upgrade for Droid X users is planned for "late summer."

The news was met with some annoyance across the pond. "The firm [Motorola] has not explained why there is such a delay, though us Brits are by now used to being left with any old junk," wrote Lawrence Latif of The Inquirer.

Meanwhile, it appears Android 2.2 for Droid X had been leaked to a Web site called My Droid World, but the Froyo build has since been removed after the site received a cease-and-desist letter from Motorola's senior director of information security, Richard Rushing, according to a moderator on the site.

"The following URL contains the software which we have confirmed as Motorola Copyrighted Software," the letter said.

The moderator, BBCrackman, wrote, "We are sorry for the inconvenience but we must oblige Motorola. I am not sure how long the mirrors will be up so if you want to get your Froyo on then now would be a good time. ..."
