Oracle Boosts Telecom Presence With GoAhead Acquisition

GoAhead's software is used by network equipment providers (NEPs) to improve service availability for telecommunications systems. High service levels are needed for real-time network applications, according to Oracle.

The company's products are sold to the telecommunications, aerospace and defense, and media industries.

"NEPs are moving to a standardized software and hardware platform that can deliver and manage highly available services," said Nigel Ball, Oracle vice president of communications industry solutions, in a statement. "GoAhead Software is the leading commercially-available solution that is compliant with Service Availability Forum specifications, the most widely adopted standard for service availability software.

"The addition of GoAhead technology will help us deliver a comprehensive, standards-based, carrier-grade platform that supports the delivery of new services in the call path of the network," Ball said.

GoAhead's Website lists Emerson Network Power and DLT Solutions among the company's VAR partners.

Oracle did not disclose the cost of the acquisition, which is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Oracle expects to complete the acquisition before the end of this year and GoAhead will continue to operate independently until then.

Privately held GoAhead is based in Bellevue, Wash.
